The Synergy Company™ extended its environmental outreach by signing an agreement to buy 100 percent of its equivalent energy
use from Rocky Mountain Power's
Blue Sky wind power program. Synergy is a manufacturer of dietary and nutritional supplements whose facility is certified to manufacture
organic and kosher products.
The Moab-based business first learned about Blue Sky wind power after reading about other business signups in the local newspaper.
Synergy co-owners Mitchell May and John W. Groo discussed the purchase with the company's other senior managers.
"The decision was a no-brainer for us," explained Groo. "We believe supporting clean power is a natural fit. The increased
cost wasn't much of an issue because it fits in with our belief that there are larger considerations.
"We're in the health products business, and we manufacture products with organic ingredients," he said. "Our name is made
on product purity and environmental care."
Synergy is purchasing 167 blocks of Blue Sky each month and uses an average of 16,660 kilowatt hours of electricity. The average
Utah household uses 700 kwh each month.
Synergy’s purchase of 167 blocks of Blue Sky each month has substantial environmental benefits, according to Sarah Wright,
coordinator of the Utah Wind Power Campaign, a project of the Land and Water Fund of the Rockies. Rocky Mountain Wind Power
Campaign helps market Blue Sky to area businesses.
"Synergy’s Blue Sky purchase means that 140 tons of CO
2 emissions will be avoided each year or the equivalent of 300,000 miles that will not be driven," she said.
